Acknowledging Mind, Body and Community Connections.
Welcome, and thank you for allowing me to be a part of your journey.
I have a Bachelors Degree in Counselling and am skilled in working with couples, families and relationships, including those experiencing significant changes and transitions in life, such as separation, blended family dynamics and grief. I also work across many areas of mental health, such as supporting those with ADHD, dissociation, PTSD, anxiety and depression.
My approach is based on the client's needs and incorporates cognitive, humanistic and creative modalities. I believe that the solutions for change and progress are held within the client, and my job is to facilitate the exploration and discovery of the pathway forward, leading to an improvement in quality of life. I am a Provisional Member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC).
The idea of counselling feels daunting for many people. I provide an inclusive, confidential, collaborative, non-judgemental and safe space.
I am currently offering online counselling only to new clients.
1-1 Counselling (talk therapy) is available in 60 and 90 minute sessions, or can be tailored on request. Before our first session, I invite you to call or email me (contacts are in the top right of this page) if you would like to discuss specific needs. Some examples of this may be: the need for a support person, help connecting to additional services (including referrals to both public and private providers), and accommodations like bringing along young children and babies.
Counselling involves 'talk therapy' as the main mode of discovery, however, some people prefer a more creative approach. You may have an idea of the medium (painting, drawing, clay, movement etc) that you would like to work with, or, you may like to try new and different creative ways to process what you are experiencing. I have used many different mediums with clients. Working creatively can be particularly helpful for young people, those who like to work more in the 'abstract' or with metaphor, those who enjoy a somatic (body) experience, and with trauma that may have occurred in pre-verbal years.
Relationships come in all shapes and sizes, so relationship counselling includes both families and chosen partnerships. Sometimes it makes sense to meet together in a session, and sometimes it may be better to meet 1-1. There is no 'one size fits all' when it comes to working through problems, so if you are unsure of what would be best, please get in touch with me to discuss possible options.
If you, or someone you know is in immediate and life-threatening danger, please call emergency services on 111.
